‘THE LIBRARY’ - graduate project
THE LIBRARY was inspired by the core idea of Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party, which is to introduce the richness of women’s heritage, and applied it to science fiction. I built a womb-like metal sculpture to house books of feminist science fiction or stories that challenge gender, gender-roles and sexuality. This is so that these stories written by women could belong together instead of under-appreciated or lost amongst the masses of male-written science fiction.
THE LIBRARY has 45 titles of fiction and non-fiction, with covers all redesigned by me using cropped screen prints.
The Screenprints
A selection of the colourful and layered screenprints done whilst experimenting in the print room. These inspired the book covers.
The Book Covers

The Cushions and Poem
Screen printed cushions with the illustrations and poem made to represent feminist science fiction.
Research Sketchbook
